As a senior portrait photographer in San Luis Obispo (SLO), I have noticed that senior portraits have come a long way. What use to be a simple portrait session in a studio has become a senior experience. One of the most important decisions that a senior must make with regards to their senior session is to determine the location.
Before booking a photographer for your senior session, start thinking of a location you might want. Once you find a photographer, tell them about your location of choice. Your photographer will suggest to you the best time to shoot at that location. The location is by far one of the most important factors to consider. As a senior photographer in San Luis Obispo, I believe that your location will also dictate your outfit choices. For example, a senior session at the beach will require you to wear something different than a session in downtown.
In San Luis Obispo, there are several locations that are popular for high school and college seniors. Some of these locations include California Polytechnic State University, Terrace Hill, Pismo and Avila beach as well as downtown SLO. So how do you find the perfect location for you? First, try to figure out where you spend most of your time. When you look back on your college years, what will you remember? The downtown vibe, the beaches, the hiking trails, the sunsets at Terrace hill. Second, ask your photographer for suggestions or check out their portfolio to get an idea of what other seniors have done.

I recently photographed Gina, a college graduate. Gina wanted her senior photos to showcase the beauty and nature of SLO. No brick buildings or downtown vibes for this girl. Gina wanted outdoor photos inspired by nature and the beautiful surroundings of SLO. We started out on campus and did the obligatory graduate photos in front of the famous California Polytechnic State University sign. Then, we quickly moved on to the various gardens and nature inspired locations throughout the campus. We then left school and headed to Terrace Hill. I was able to capture beautiful images at both locations. These nature inspired places were the perfect locations for Gina! With just a few locations, I was able to give Gina a gallery full of variety.
What is the perfect location for you? Let me help you find it. Book a session here. Once you book a session, I will send you a locations guide to help you find the perfect location for you. After that, I will send you a style guide to help you coordinate your outfit with your location.
I have also joined a wonderful group of photographers for a blog circle. I want to introduce you to Delanie Potts who is a Melbourne family photographer. This week she wrote a blog post about a week in the life of her family. Go check her out!!!
