Choosing what to wear for your senior pictures is an incredibly exciting decision that can truly elevate your photos! It’s a chance to showcase your unique style and personality, and with the right outfits, you’ll feel confident, beautiful, and ready to shine in front of the camera. That’s why I’m here to help you with the ultimate guide to nailing your senior session wardrobe, filled with tons of fun inspiration and tips on what to wear and how to style your outfits. So, let’s get started and make your senior portraits the best they can be!

1. Comfort is Key

The most important thing to remember when planning your outfits is comfort. If you’re not comfortable with what you’re wearing, you won’t feel confident on camera. Avoid clothes that are too tight, fit awkwardly, or make you feel self-conscious. Also, steer clear of anything that you have to adjust constantly or that is at risk of being revealing. You’ll be moving and posing a lot during the shoot, so you want to be comfortable and confident.

2. Be Yourself

Staying true to yourself with your outfits is crucial. When you look back at these images in 20+ years, you’ll want them to reflect the real you. Don’t feel like you need to buy anything new or outside of your usual style just because you’re getting photos taken. This entire shoot is about who YOU are in this exciting season of life, so be true to yourself and don’t change a single thing!

3. Add Some Color

Consider using bold colors to make your photos pop! Adding layers to your outfits can also add dimension to your images, especially in the colder months. A sweater with a flannel underneath, paired with a vest, statement earrings, or scarf, can make for super fun posing options. Even in the warmer months, you can add layers by wearing a tank top with a cute sheer cardigan or by throwing a denim jacket over a dress.

4. Play with Textures

Textures like feathers, furs, and 3D florals can add a lot of interest to your outfit and make a huge difference in your photos. Pieces with movement, like long, flowy dresses or fun feathers that move when you twirl, can also add a fun element to your pictures.

5. Accessorize

Adding accessories like jewelry, hats, fun shoes, purses, etc., can make your outfit feel more like you and add a whole new layer of detail to your senior gallery. Statement earrings, a bright lip color, fun shoes, colorful bags, and floppy sun hats are all great options that can give you more variety when posing and creating beautiful pictures.

6. Mix it Up

Make sure to have a variety of looks when planning your outfits. Choose from categories like casual, cozy, dressy, school-related, sports-related, preppy, or edgy. Try to choose 3-4 of these categories and find outfits accordingly. This will provide a beautiful array of looks during your senior portrait session, so each outfit looks drastically different, and you get tons of variety!
